Hypnosis Treatment: How Long Does it Take to Solve Your Problems?

problems and solutions solved with hypnosisOnce you start a course of hypnosis treatment, how long does it take until you solve your problems?

Other than rates, the most popular question I get from prospective clients is how long does the treatment take? The answer to that question is it varies. There are many factors that determine session length, including the issue being treated, the impact of the issue, and your rate of progress. But one thing you have to know is that hypnosis, in general, is a short-term treatment.
Unlike psychology and psychiatry, which often take two sessions per week for an open-ended time (often years), hypnosis treats any issue in a handful of sessions. We are constantly working with the goal in sight, and because of the immediately suggestive nature of hypnosis, it is effective right away. That is one of hypnosis’ chief appeals.

Different issues call for different treatment times. On the short end of the spectrum, you’ll find smoking, drugs, and alcohol (substance abuse). While some substance-abuse stems from deeper psychological traumas or emotional problems, a great deal of the cases I see were started due to emotional and psychological reasons, but had since grown into physical dependencies. Once the hypnosis works upon the emotional/psychological roots behind the problem, the physical healing will naturally follow.

The linkage between the emotional issues and physical issues is very direct, which usually makes for a shorter treatment time. With smoking, drugs and alcohol, you’re looking at anywhere between one to four sessions. Again, I want to stress that I don’t see my clients as one monolithic group—every one has a unique relationship with their problem, and should receive a distinct and tailored treatment. I can’t emphasize this enough.

On the longer side of the spectrum, you might find anxiety, depression, mental illness, phobias, and dating/relationship skills. Often these issues build upon themselves and have complex relevancy to parts of your past, relationships in your life, professional circumstances, and other factors. With these issues, you’re looking at something between two to five sessions.

Hypnosis for weight loss is its own category: Your session number is contingent on your weight-loss goals. If you come to me wanting to lose 100 pounds, it might take three to six sessions, but if you’re coming to me in the spring, looking to get that beach body in shape, then you’re looking at two to four sessions. We will put you on the right supplement plan that you can continue even after you’ve stopped seeing me.

Each session is fifty minutes. I also offer a “session-and-a-half”, double sessions, and phone sessions. Call my office at (212) 599-3195, and let’s get you to where you want to be.
