There’s an article on Salon written by Amanda Stern about life coaching that I like. It features life coach, Matthew Hussey who calls attention to the BS artists out there who claim to have “all the answers”.
According to the author of this article, if you have a life coach who has all the answers, you’re dependent on him. This is a brilliant point.
As your life coach, I don’t have all the answers — I have all the skills. I know systematically and thoroughly what you need to do to accomplish all you need to in order to have a successful career, family life, social life and romance/sex life.
If you come to me with a question about whether a woman will reject you if you ask her out on the date, I’ll tell you I don’t know. If you ask me what your pick up line should be, I’ll tell you I don’t know. What I will tell you is how to get into the mindset that will guarantee self-confidence. That’s all I can do.
Don’t forget that I measure my success as your life coach in terms of how short your treatment is; not how long it is. The earlier you get out of my office feeling better and more successful, the happier I am. I’m not looking to get you into a culture of dependence.
